The 1948 Horse Races and Horse Show last Thursday afternoon and evening put on by the Cottonwood Valley Saddle Horse Association was one of the most pleasing set of events of its kind ever put on here. The popular horse show in the afternoon was pronounced the best one since the association started presenting them in 1945.

First place honors in the contest recently held by the Marion Camera Club went to a shot snapped of Dick Tracy funnies fan, little Miss Ruth Muck, by her mother, Mrs. Fred Muck, with a common box camera. Second place winner was Dick Brodhead with an Argus C-3 shot of the tea party being enjoyed by sophisticated little ladies, Mollie Brodhead and Sandy Long.

Workers are busy this week on an important enlargement program at the local Kroger grocery store and market. Upon completion of the work, the store will occupy the entire first floor of the Masonic building, doubling its present size.

Sanitary Market was sold this week by Mr. and Mrs. Art Miller to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sandwell. Sandwell has worked at the market for a number of years while it was operated by Mr. and Mrs. Clive Jarvis, and after while Milton and Art Miller were in charge.

W.O. Schroeder’s new building, “Creekside Manor” as he calls it, is rapidly nearing completion on N. 5th Street. The concrete block building is 20x14 and will be used for rest, recreation and storage, he said.
