Marion’s Main Street received a thorough cleaning down its full-length last week. A rotary street sweeper belonging to the state swept all the accumulated dirt into the gutter where it was picked up and disposed of. The improvement was definite and commendable.

Appointments for key city employees were made at this week’s meeting of the city commissioners. Employees named included A.W. Schoneman, city clerk; David W. Wheeler, city attorney; Lawrence Burnett, city marshall; and Walter Siebert, city treasurer.

The fill made on the east side of the city park has been planted to grass. Playground equipment for smaller children has been ordered. One piece includes four swings, a slippery slide, and a teeter-totter.

Highlights of the high school baseball game with Peabody Friday night include a home run by Merrill; clutch pitching by Warren Hayen; a smooth double play by Powell, Merrill, and Conyers, and the efficient umpiring of “Creamy” Schwemmer.

The famous band, Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys, stopped for breakfast in Marion Wednesday en route to a Salina engagement. Ben Meier reports they complimented him on the food, the reasonable prices, the beautiful park, and the attractive town.
