6 possibly injured in 2 rollovers

News editor

Six people sustained possible injuries Friday in rollover accidents south and west of Marion.

Sarah Hendrix, 16, of Marion and four passengers were in a southbound 1996 GMC Yukon that had just crossed the city limit where Coble St. turns into Sumac Rd. when the vehicle skidded on gravel and rolled into a soybean field, coming to rest on the driver’s side.

Hendrix; Nathan Young, 16; Amethyst Larson, 14; Alfwenna Meyer, 13; and Madeline Larson, 14, all of Marion, were reported to have been wearing shoulder and lap belts and escaped serious injury. Complaining of pain, all were taken to St. Luke Hospital by Marion ambulance.

Sheriff’s deputy Travis Wilson reported that driving too fast for conditions contributed to the accident.

Two hours later, at 5:44 p.m., Cody Hiebert, 24, of Marion was driving a 2000 Lincoln Town Car on 190th Rd. east of Old Mill Rd.

The car reportedly crossed center, and Hiebert overcorrected and swerved into the north ditch, where the car rolled onto a fence.

Wilson reported that Hiebert was not wearing a restraint and was transported by ambulance to St. Luke with possible injuries. A passenger, Gavin Druse, 7, of Marion was secured in a booster seat and was not injured.

Driving faster than conditions allowed contributed to the accident, Wilson reported.
