Marion City Commissioners adopted a resolution Monday night to set the machinery in motion to purchase a new engine at the power plant. More and more electricity is being used each year, and a plant that was ample in years past has now become too small.

Pvt. Eugene Christensen, whose wife, Margie, lives in Marion, completed eight weeks of basic combat training with the 4th Armored Division at Fort Hood, Texas, Aug. 17.

The first day of school will be Sept. 3. The complete schedule will be taught the first day and school will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

Mrs. Byron Ewert, the former Zona Kelsey and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ora Kelsey of Marion, was runner-up for queen last week at the Western Metals annual picnic at Alpine, California. Mrs. Ewert is employed at Western Metals Company supply plant while her husband is in the service.

A building which was probably almost as old as Marion was torn down recently. It was the stone barn on the original property of pioneer Alex E. Case. That entire block had originally been platted to contain the county seat buildings which instead were built in the valley. The lots between the Bud Pierce and Winne homes were recently purchased by the Dean Batts, who plan to build a home there. The barn was on those lots.
