Finishing touches are being put on Marion’s new municipal swimming pool in preparation for an anticipated opening sometime next week. Exact time for the opening has not been set, although it is hoped to be by mid-week.

Mike Vinduska of Pilsen entered a trap shoot at Kansas City last week and came home with a valuable prize. His trophy was a color TV set, one of the first in this area.

The Cottonwood Valley League team was runner-up in the Babe Ruth state tournament held here last week. Team members were Jerry Schwemmer, Ronnie Oelschlager, Gerald Kelsey, John Christensen, Dennis Navrat, Marion Kelsey, John Higgins, James Gilbert, Warren Vogel, Larry Burkholder, Larry Evans, Boyce Baumgartner of Cottonwood, Dale Snelling of Florence, and Arthur Paul of Peabody. Arnold Schwemmer was coach and Edw. W. Navrat, manager.

Miss Julia Campbell was hit on the head by a foul ball at the Babe Ruth tournament Monday evening and was taken to St. Luke Hospital where she was treated. She was released Tuesday afternoon, still with a very sore spot on her head.

Olson of Clements, and Jon Wayne Thole of Marion as they talk over pre-enrollment at Kansas State College, Manhattan, during a break in their busy two-day schedule on campus. Louis and Olson plan to major in geology and Thole in civil engineering.
