Franklin D. Roosevelt Jr. and his herd manager, James Smith, Poughquag, New York, visited the O.J. Shields Hereford farm southeast of Lost Springs Saturday. Mr. Roosevelt and his employee have been looking at cattle through this section with which to stock his farm. Earlier this week, he and his brother Elliott were fortunate in escaping injury in a crash of their private plane on takeoff from a southeast Kansas airport.

The American Legion sponsored countywide “Veterans Party” will be held Friday with all veterans invited. Registration will be at 7 p.m. at the Legion hall. At 8 p.m., the meeting will move to the county lake where a picnic meal will be served and further festivities provided.

Connie Mack III, a member of the longtime athletic baseball family was in Marion his week helping to complete local arrangements for a busload of boosters to attend the double header July 14 when the Kansas City team will host the Washington Senators.

Seventeen members of the class of 1947 and their families, making a group of 54, gathered Saturday at the Country Club for a reunion. Kingfisher’s Inn served a fried chicken dinner and a fine time was enjoyed by the group.

Mrs. Rendel Newsom has gone to St. Louis, Missouri, to attend commencement exercises at George Washington University where her daughter, Roberta, will receive her master’s degree in the field of psychiatric social service work.
