The project to provide summer air conditioning in the offices at the county courthouse moved one step nearer completion this week with the arrival of the 20 individual units, ready for wiring and installation.

Within the next few months the 4-party-line telephone service in Marion will be discontinued, and customers now using the service will be offered either 2-party or private line service.

Plans were made at the Monday noon meeting of Kiwanis to charter a bus to attend a Kansas City Athletics ball game in the near future. Gerry Higgins has been appointed as chairman of the committee to make plans for the trip. He will be assisted by Bill Holmes, Homer Stenzel, and Ed Sandwell.

Marion girls who have been attending the CYS young peoples’ camp at Camp Webster, north of Salina, are Sue Bratton, Lou Wheeler, Beverly Pankratz, Judy Richards, and Joyce Nienstedt.

At commencement exercises last week, Warren Gardner was announced as valedictorian of the Marion High School graduating class of 1957. Warren also received the Marion Teachers Association scholarship to be used at any college he chooses. Elda Pankratz was named salutatorian. She received a scholarship to Ottawa University for next year.
