An estimated 450 hungry people were deliciously and well fed Tuesday at the Cottonwood Valley Poultry Barbecue and Jamboree sponsored by the county extension service and the Marion Chamber of Commerce.

The new $100,000 expansion program planned for St. Luke Hospital will be in the form of a wing to the present hospital to be used as “a facility for the accommodation of convalescents or other persons who are not acute-ill, but require skilled nursing care and related medical services.

Karen Schroder entertained Friday evening with a Hi Fi dance and party in honor of her cousin, Larry Buryanek of McPherson. Other young folks present included Deanna Kimball, Donna Newsom, Georgie Helmer, Deanna Klenda, Sandra Jackson, James Robert Meisner, Tom Good, Dennis Schroeder, Tim Williams, Dick Morse, Gary King and Raymond Remmers.

Engagements announced in this issue are those of Elizabeth Joan Klenda and Leonard F. Navrat and JoAnn Elaine Svoboda and Joseph G. Nowak.

A selected adult league all-star basketball team will meet the victorious Christian church team Monday night. All-stars are Gail Dody, Ronnie Post, Dr. Earl Wood, Lowell Ewert, Gene Christensen, Jerry Dyck, Joe Dvorak, Ed Frickey, Ralph Richmond, Jack Helmer, Jack Vogt, and Bob Edmunds.

Hannah Hein of Durham and Mrs. B.M. Bledsoe, Marion, were the only winners in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Mrs. Hein received $20 and Mrs. Bledsoe, $5.
