Large dirty-moving equipment went to work this week on the new State Highway district shops north of Marion. Ditching, grading, compacting and other preparatory work is going forward rapidly. The site is one mile north of Main Street on Cedar Street on land purchased from Sam Thole.

The Nz Restaurant is holding open house Sunday to invite the public to look over their entirely re-decorated and re-furnished basement dining room. They have named the new room the “Redwood Diner.” It will be available for private parties and special dinners, with seating from 10 to 75 persons.

Installation was completed last week of three new aluminum and glass doors at the entrances of the county courthouse. The doors are the very latest and best type modern glass doors and make a fine improvement to the building.

The seventh grade “Braves” who took third in the Hillsboro tourney are pictured, along with their coaches, Howard Collett and Jerry Dyck. Boys included are Gary King, Don Druse, Mike Childs, mgr., Steve Greenemeyer, Gary Roberts, Dennis Pankratz, Tom Good, Jan Hayen, Harvey Sanders, Tim Williams, Dennis Schroeder, and Gary Hammer.

Jeanette Russell, freshman at Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma, was runner-up in the campus contest for Miss Venus of 1957. Jeanette was sponsored by the Gridiron Club, a boy’s social club on the campus.
