Insurance agents were swamped with reports of storm damage Thursday morning after a big blow Wednesday evening that covered the northern part of the county.

Six Boy Scouts of Marion Troop #102, and their leader James Meisner, enjoyed a week of camping and scout activities at the Quivera Council’s Camp Ta-Wa-Ko-Ni, near Augusta. Scouts who attended were Dick Morse, James R. Meisner, Larry Evans, Gailen Broadstreet, Steve Greenemeyer, and Mike Childs.

Janice Childs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Childs, celebrated her eighth birthday with a wiener roast in their back yard August 1. Invited were Suzanne Bailey, Loretta Smith, Pamela Vinduska, Pat Warneke, Elaine Rogers, Anita VanBuren, and Connie Allen.

The city commission this week hired Lavern Hoffman and Larry Hoover, adding them to the city utilities crews. The boys will work until school time and will provide additional help in order that regular city employees may take vacations.

A “vacation time” party for members of the youth center, “The Reservation,” will be held Friday evening at the Marion Skating Rink. Those from 13 to 19 are welcome with a special invitation to those just turned 13 or who will during the school year, even though they are not members of the youth center. Chaperones for the evening will be Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Summervill and Mr. and Mrs. June Jost.
