American Legion posts in Marion County have designated Nov. 29 as “Sunflower Boys and Girls County Government Day” in Marion County. Juniors from the high schools in the county will take part. The purpose of the program is to give students an opportunity to study firsthand the operations of the county officers.

“Sliding Down a Rainbow,” the grade school operetta, will be presented tonight at the high school auditorium under the direction of Miss Betty Lou Kellum.

Mrs. Ed Sandwell was a lucky winner this past week. She won the first prize of an automatic washer at the American Legion carnival Friday. She also was the winner of lamp, handmade by Harry Hanson, at the carnival. She was awarded a prize in a drawing at St. Mark’s church dinner earlier in the week.

Mr. and Mrs. John Williams received word last week that their son, John Reed Williams, a cadet at Annapolis Naval Academy, sustained a broken shoulder in a game between the academy and the University of Virginia.

Mrs. Lawrence Fisher received $10 and Velvia Strong received $5 in this week’s Cash Day drawing. Those whose names were called, but were not present, were Mrs. Tom Sklenar, Theo. Kroupa, and Albert Hart.

Icy road conditions caused several highway accidents over the county Wednesday and Thursday. One, between Lincolnville and Lost Springs, hospitalized several persons.
