5 teens arrested on multiple drug charges

Five teenagers were arrested on suspicion of multiple drug-related charges at 1:20 a.m. after being stopped for speeding May 4 near US-56 and Ridge Rd.

At about 1:20 a.m., Marion officer Mike Stone pulled over a vehicle driven by Darrick Watts, 18, of Westminster, Colorado, who was allegedly traveling 73 mph in a 65 mph zone.

Assistant police chief Clinton Jeffrey said Stone detected the smell of alcohol coming from the vehicle. Stone also noted the occupants all were under 21, which Jeffrey said gave Stone probable cause to use canine officer Legion to search the vehicle.

“They were all in Royals apparel, so they may have been coming back from the Royals game that night,” Jeffrey said.

Several open containers of alcohol, two multicolored glass pipes, a marijuana grinder, and a glass jar with marijuana residue, valued at $21, allegedly were discovered.

Watts was arrested on suspicion of transportation of an open container, minor in possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and speeding.

Griffin Myers, 19, of McPherson, Anthony Trujillo, 18, of Goddard, Daniel Reed, 19, of Spring, Texas, and Ryan Snow, 19, of Hutchinson, were arrested on suspicion of transportation of an open container, minor in possession of alcohol, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
