Two Nationalist Chinese girls, Grace Chen and Rena Su, enjoyed their first snowball fight Monday in front of the Record office, with their Marion County friends and hosts, Edith and Norma Frick. “There’s no snow in Taiwan, and we love it,” said the girls as they heaved snowballs at each other.

A special award was presented to Rendel Newsom, Marion florist, Wednesday for having donated a total of eight gallons of blood to the Red Cross Blood Bank. Also recognized for donations were Erna Mae Yeagley, four gallons, and Noel Dannenfelser and Ed Sandwell, three gallons each.

An interesting discussion on the new Modern Math was presented by Bown-Corby staff at the January 24 Parent-Teacher Association meeting. Staff discussing the program included Wilma Ewert, Ruth Montgomery, Marilyn Gerbrant, Helen Klassen, Martha Barr, and Alma Schlotthauer.

Very cold weather has been hanging around for the major part of the week. Snow commenced falling early Monday morning and continued throughout most of the day and night. Farmers are hoping the zero temperatures will kill the green bugs that are infesting the wheat fields.

Katherine Swan of Marion received $100 in this week’s Cash Days drawing. Those not present when their names were drawn were Ardella Gray, Peabody, who missed $15; Mrs. Ivan L. Winter, Marion, who missed $15; Kenneth Nienstedt, Marion, $40; and Frank Layton, Marion, $5.

Lynn Vajnar, 6’2” sophomore, is the featured Marion Warrior basketball player this week. Vajnar is not only a valuable player on the B-team, but a substitute for the A-team.
