The new police radio transmitter and receiver which was ordered some time ago to replace the aged equipment long in use there, has been received and installed. It is in operation and a big improvement, say the operators who maintain the 24-hour per day service at the sheriff’s office.

Herbert Janzen, 64, of Hillsboro was painfully burned on his face and hand in an explosion and fire at the Janzen farm north and east of Canada. The fire, which followed the Friday noon explosion, completely destroyed the 2-story house.

B & E Café in Marion opened New Year’s Day in brand spanking new remodeled quarters after being closed for two weeks while work was in progress. The café, located west of the post office, is operated by Beverly Winter and her mother Elsie, Mrs. Ed Winter.

At 12:05 a.m. Jan. 1, while the New Year’s bells were chiming and whistles blowing, Little Miss 1966 was born at St. Luke Hospital. She is Adrianna Lynn Bamberger, daughter and first child of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bamberger of Marion.

Pictures of players in the “Basketball Spotlight” this week are Bob Elling, Marion Warrior guard whose adept ball handling makes him one of the team’s spark plugs and Norman Alexander, 5’10’ senior, who also occupies the position of guard and keeps the Warriors moving.

Frank Svitak has announced there will be a dance this Saturday night at the Starlite Ballroom in Pilsen. Music will be by the Marvin Prochaska orchestra.

The annual New Year’s Day “wolf hunt” in the Youngtown neighborhood was well attended. Six coyotes were bagged but several escaped through the lines. Over 100 people passed through the noon lunch line for the meal served in the Walt Hayen implement shed.
