Burglars were busy in Marion and McPherson counties Tuesday night. Some 17 or 18 places of business were broken into, all by the same method and using the same tools. Lehigh was the hardest hit, with five places reporting burglaries.

Marion’s veteran and respected barber, Al Holder, is starting this month on his 70th consecutive year of barbering in Marion. This is by far the longest record of its kind in the state. He started barbering in Marion at the age of 16.

The U.S. Senate confirmed the appointment of Ray Vinduska as postmaster of the Marion post office last Thursday, according to a telegram from Senator Frank Carlson on Sept. 24.Vinduska has been the assistant postmaster and since the retirement of Paul Shahan this summer, has been the acting postmaster. A.F. “Tommy” Thompson will now become the assistant postmaster.

With the continuation of the beautiful fall weather being enjoyed this week, the 1964 Old Settlers Day affair Thursday promises to rank among the best.
