The City of Marion’s twin major improvement projects, the new water treatment plant and the new sewage treatment and disposal system, are about ready to go into operation, the commission advises.

Four Marion High School girls, Melody Thompson, Mary Swann, Linda Bauman, and Mary Jane Reppart, are taking advantage of the annual Easter vacation train trip sponsored by the Kansas Student Tour Council to visit Chicago, New York and Washington, D.C.

A group of some 150 sheep producers and their families attended the annual Marion County Sheep and Wool meeting March 19 in the Marion City Building.

Marion High School science student Edsel Schroeder won first place in the Junior Biological Sciences Division of the Salina Regional Science Fair with his experiment, “The Effect of Tranquilizers on Mice.” Susan Hansen also received first place with her experiment, “A Solar Furnace.”

Stores generally will be closed in Marion this Friday from 12 noon to 3 p.m. in the annual observance of Good Friday. Union services will be held in half-hour segments at the Methodist church.
