Bright new signs are appearing this week on many roads in north Marion County — signs forming a realistic link with the romantic days of early Kansas. The signs say, “Original Santa Fe Trail Crossed Here.”

Dr. J.E. Tibbetts, prominent Marion dentist, passed away Friday, March 6, at his home the victim of a heart attack. His death came as an unexpected shock to the entire community, family, and friends.

Students in the 5th and 6th grades of Marion Elementary School are busy preparing for their yearly operetta. This year’s presentation is based on Hans Christian Anderson’s “Rumpelstiltskin.”

If you are a genuine “mail order bride,” Metro-Goldwyn Mayer has launched a campaign to locate one whose mail order bride status can be documented and who has the most interesting background. Winner will be taken to New York on an all-expense paid trip to meet Lois Nettleton, star of “Mail Order Bride.” Co-stars of the movie are Buddy Ebsen and Keir Dullea.

Mrs. Paul Mayginness, Marion, received $50 at this week’s Cash Days drawing and Robert Ehrlich, Marion, received $5. Ruth Ann Sutherland, Marion, missed $25; Bennie Brooks, Peabody, missed $20; and Charles Duffy, Marion, missed $5.
