Marion Creamery Company, an important Marion institution for over 65 years, was sold this week, it is announced by Gordon Wolf, operator and one of the three family owners of the business. Purchaser is the ‘Tip Top Dairies Company of Hillsboro. The transfer will be effective April 1.

The Durham “Hornets” completed an unblemished season last Saturday night at Dodge City when they captured the Class BB state tournament with a resounding 56-39 win over Corning. The north Marion County team became the only team in the state to finish with a 26-0 record season.

Mike Schwemmer of Marion was the top scorer in the Cottonwood Valley League this season, according to statistics released this week. He had 369 points. Schwemmer played in 18 games and had a 21.7 average per game, tops in the league.

Dave Greenemeyer is busy this week remodeling his property in the 300 block of Main Street. The ceiling and interior of Hayward’s Beauty Shop and Lee’s Grill will be remodeled and the new type “floating” ceiling will be installed.

Two Marion High School seniors, Jeannine Skibbe and Cheryl Caselman, are recipients this year of the $100 scholarships being awarded by the Marion Parent Teacher Association. The awards are made in cash, $50 for each semester, and can be used at any school.
