Construction has started on the “Red Bridge” project on Cedar Street north of Marion. The old plank-floor suspension bridge is being taken out and the road widened.

Mrs. Walter (Neva) Fruechting celebrated her 30th anniversary with the telephone company Sunday. She went to work Aug. 27, 1937, with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and has been employed by the firm ever since that time.

Roxanne Zerger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Zerger of Marion, was crowned queen of the 37th annual Marion County Fair in Hillsboro last Thursday evening. She will now compete in the Miss Kansas Contest in Pratt next year.

Ann and Jan Bryant, twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bryant, celebrated their fifth birthday Aug. 25 with a “Lollypop Party.” Those present for the fun were Ethel and Rose Cox, Janene Dreier, Greta and Gena Helmer, Debbie Henry, Sherri Rigler, Lisa Wilson, and Meg Wingerd. Also present were the girls’ brothers, Stephen and David, and their cousins, Doug and Darrel Priddle of Raytown, Missouri.

The enrollment at Marion schools at the beginning of classes is as follows: Marion High School, 226; Marion Elementary, 318; and Bown Corby, 154. This year’s enrollment is down 21 from the fall 1966 term and six below the 1965 year.
