Former residents Mr. and Mrs. John Riddle of Salina received word this week that her nephew, Major Edwin Woods Martin Jr. was killed June 23 while accompanying a patrol in the highlands of South Vietnam. Major Martin spent many months in Marion with the Riddles. He attended Marion schools two years and worked at Riddle Quarries during several summers.

Gerry Harris, Marion Ford dealer, is pictured as he recently received the Ford “Gold Car” award and the Ford “Gold Truck” award at a luncheon in Kansas City. The awards are for outselling all other makes of cars and trucks in the trade territory for the preceding year.

Mr. and Mrs. Leland Heidebrecht and their son, Scott, 4 months old, live at 432 South Third. The Heidebrechts come to Marion from Wichita. Mr. Heidebrecht is employed at Al and Art’s Quality Market.\

Daryl Esslinger, formerly of Eureka, is operating the Esslinger Spraying Service at Marion Municipal Airport.

Coast Guard Cadet 3/c Norman L. Bowers, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bowers of Marion, is a sophomore at the Coast Guard Academy in New Long, Connecticut. At the present time he is home of leave, visiting his parents and friends.

Mrs. Norman Mueller hosted a surprise birthday supper Wednesday evening in honor of her son Norman’s 18th birthday. Guests were Pat Costello, Jim Magee, David Longhofer, Mike Wood, and Chuck Seifert.
