MARCH 16, 1967

A county bridge, spanning the creek fed by the Florence city spring, collapsed sometime Thursday night. The bridge is about a mile north of Florence, on an east-west section of the “bottom road.” County workmen are busy repairing the damage.

Lucinda Jost, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jost, was the first place winner in the eighth grade biological science division of the Tabor College-sponsored Marion County Science Fair last week. Dick Wiebe won second place in the same division. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wiebe.

Donna Backhus took top honors in several categories in the recently completed Women’s Bowling Tournament held in Marion.

The junior class of Marion High School is busy preparing for its play, “The Death and Life of Larry Benson,” scheduled for March 31. Shelly Hett, Susan Yeagley, Dan Steinel, and Myron Frans play leading roles. Becky Coe, Kathy Perkins, Teresa Seifert, Dennis Knoblock, Madeline Thompson, Kaye Applegate, Charles Pankratz, John Loney, and Julie Meier play supporting roles.

We have been having a wide range of temperatures the past week, with a record-breaking low of zero and below Wednesday to a high of 81 on Friday. With high winds, there has been a lot of concern about possible fires.
