Marion County Commission this week formally approved the request of the Marion County Fair Board to put into effect an annual countywide tax to move the old fair buildings, erect new ones, and maintain them at a new site on the south edge of Hillsboro.

Last Friday evening was an exciting time for four youngsters. They were the four winners in the first of several pre-Christmas drawings to be held in Marion. Jim Coe was first place winner of a bicycle. Second prize winner was Monte Magathan. Third prize went to Julie Ecker of Meade, and fourth prize to Norma Heidel.

Skelly Oil Co station at the corner of Main and Elm changed operators today when A.R. “Pete” Schambron gave up his lease after 13 years. The popular station will now be operated by Mark Childs.

Millcine Scharenberg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Scharenberg of Florence, became the bride of Jerry L. Siebert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Siebert of Marion, at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Marion October 22.

Mazie Lee was the only winner in this week’s Cash Day drawing. She received $5. Oliver Pavey, Marion, missed $50; Mrs. Melvin Krause Lincolnville, missed $10; George Gambel, Peabody, missed $10; and Fred Klein, Peabody, missed $5.

The family of John Hett, which includes seven sons and two daughters and their families, gathered at the Aulne church Thanksgiving Day and enjoyed a bountiful dinner.
