Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Swann announce they will hold an open house at their new store, Swann’s Drugs, July 27. The building is an attractive modern, all-new structure at the corner of Fourth and Main Sts.

Mrs. Homer Reinke and Mrs. Norma Hannaford entertained with a buffet supper last Friday evening in honor of Mrs. W.H. Carpenter, Mrs. John E. Wheeler, Mrs. Olive Hoffman, and Mrs. W.R. Carpenter of Topeka, who will leave July 25 on a trip to the British Isles.

Jim Ferrell’s paint horses went to Scott City last weekend, took part in the High Plains Horse Show there, and came home with two Grand Champion honors and two Reserve champions.

Gary Melcher competed in the 12-14-year-old group at the “All Comers” track meet at Wichita Saturday and was one of the outstanding stars of the meet. He set a new record of 56’4¾” in the shot put. The old record was 5’9”. He bettered his own old record of 133’10” in the javelin, with a heave of 141’8”. And, he won the discus, setting a new record of 148’8” over the old one of 145’2”.

According to Postmaster Ray Vinduska, a contract was let last week for alterations at the Marion Postoffice. The entire front counter and box sections will be reorganized and remodeled with the addition of 50 more boxes. There also will be large pull down type wooden curtains to close off the window section.
