Lyle Sanders was appointed to the position as Chief of Police of the City of Marion at the regular Monday meeting of the city commission. Other regular members of the police force are Paul Behrendt and June Jost.

Girls play, learn, and eat during seven fun, self-planned activities at this year’s Girl Scout District Day camp on Bill Duvall’s property west of Marion.

St. Luke Hospital at Marion this week became the 25th hospital in Kansas to be certified and approved to participate in the government Medicare program. Everyone 65 years of age or older, except aliens and government employees, will be eligible to participate in the general hospitalization of the plan.

The City of Marion this week reminds fireworks shooters that it is unlawful to shoot firecrackers and the like within the fire zone of the town. The fire zone extends from Luta Creek to Walnut Street, with the area being from one block north to one block south of Main Street.

Helen Jackson and Carol Bowers, recent delegates to Sunflower Girls’ State, were speakers at Monday meeting of Marion Kiwanis Club. A guest of the club was former member, Capt. Richard Schwartz, now serving with the Marines in Viet Nam.
