The Exploration Department of Continental Oil Company is making a detailed underground structural survey of a wide band of Flint Hills prairie land from Burns to Council Grove and has chosen to house their party of 16 families in Marion for several months.

Trinity Lutheran Church, Ramona, will observe its 50th anniversary June 5 with special festival worship services at 10:15 a.m. and 2 p.m. and a dinner at noon.

The farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Bina and small son was extensively damaged by fire following a gas explosion Tuesday morning.

Marsha Childs, Roxanne Zerger, Mary Christensen, Susan Lentz, Chris Conyers, Karen Siebert, Barbara Kohls, Janet Varenhorst and Donna Endres enjoyed a “cook-out” at the lake Wednesday evening.

The proposed park at the west edge of Marion was the main topic of discussion Tuesday noon at the Marion Kiwanis Club meeting. The project has hit a “lull” and club president Matthew Classen has started a drive to spur added interest. Work crews will be organized soon to complete the cleaning and clearing of the park.
