This season was the first time in 60 years that it has been legal to shoot deer in Kansas. Mike Vinduska and Ed Steiner were pleased with their hunting trip last week when they bagged two young deer near Topeka. Their two sons, Dennis Steiner and Donald Vinduska, accompanied them on the outing.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sawyer and their daughter, Sandra, have taken over management of the A-1 Café from Dave Greenemeyer. The café is located on East Main at the Freeborn Street corner.

Pictured on the front page is Barbara Weber, first place winner in this year’s subscription contest. She chose a new Studio 44 Underwood-Olivetti typewriter. Second prizewinner of a new office chair was L.L. Hadsell of Marion.

Pleasant visitors in Marion from Saturday to Tuesday were two popular former teachers in the school system here, Miss Nadean Kruse and Miss Irma Wymore. Both presently are teaching in the public school system at Brighton, Colorado.

Teachers and entire staff of Marion High School joined forces Wednesday afternoon at the close of school in a surprise birthday and retirement party for the school custodian, Herb Hett, who has endeared himself during the 20 years of his work at the high school.
