This month’s showing at the Marion City Library of work by local artists includes a still life oil painting by Mrs. Herman Behrendt, a portrait study in oils of an old oriental man by T.C. Ensey, a portrait done in oils of his young daughter by Wayne Schroeder, and woodcarvings by Ward Dale.

James Sandwell of Hillsboro, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Sandwell of Marion, was fatally injured Tuesday as he worked laying a sewer pipe at a new housing development in Hillsboro.

Preparations for the Marion High School senior class play, “Deep Are the Roots,” began Oct. 4. The cast includes George Jackson in the leading role, LaVonda Hett, Darold Longhofer, Judy Pankratz, Rod Oelschlager, Toni McElwain, Dennis Conyers, Mary Westerhaus, Blair Post, Norman Bowers, and Warren Hett.

All children, who have been born at St. Luke Hospital, are invited to attend a meeting of the “St. Luke Hospital Baby Alumni Association October 23 at St. Mark’s Activity Center.

Glenn W. Shields, 18, Lincolnville, won third place for his state in the 1965 Western Division of 4-H Tractor Operators Contest at Madison, Wisconsin, Oct. 3-5.

Cedar Rest, Marion County’s home for the aged, will celebrate its first anniversary of operation in its new location in Peabody with an open house Oct. 17.
