Pictured is the first baby born at St. Luke Hospital in 1981 as he greets the new world while his mother admires him. Parents Mr. and Mrs. Steve Widler welcomed Brandon Lee, seven pounds two ounces, at 12:20 a.m. Sunday. Delivered by Dr. T.C. Ensey, Brandon is the winner of the Marion County Record’s annual “first baby” contest.

W.E. (Woody) Steinert of Tampa has cut hair in the Tampa community for the past 33 years. This past June he began carrying the mail at Tampa and has finally decided to hang up the clippers and concentrate on his mail route.

President Reagan’s inaugural parade in Washington, D.C., Tuesday was not without a representative with Marion connections. Paula Scandone of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., was marching in the flag line of her high school’s band. She is the daughter of the former Nancy Allen of Marion and the granddaughter of the O.J. Allens.

Caryl’s Dairy Palace is inviting the public to an open house Sunday afternoon and evening to see the new addition that now provides inside seating.

Jane Vajnar of Tampa is the winner of the Kansas “Our Freedom Safeguards Your Freedom” contest. She will now represent the state in national competition. Vajnar previously won the Marion County Record- sponsored contest during National Newspaper Week in October.

Geraldine Seibel, clerk of the district court for Marion County, was honored Jan.21 for 25 years of service. Administrative Judge William Clement delivered keynote remarks congratulating the rural Marion resident for her work in the Eighth Judicial District.
