City Commissioners were presented with preliminary facts and figures about the proposal to tap into Marion Lake, using the federal reservoir for municipal water supply.

Hillsboro presently is installing a water line to the reservoir, but will need to have a pumping station to force the liquid through its pipelines. Marion will not have to pump water, as it could flow by gravity from the lake to Marion.

Winner of the Marion County Record’s annual Christmas subscription contest is Jewell Amick of Marion who received a $100 gift certificate. Carl Bass, Marion, received $25 for second place; Mrs. Warren Olson of Lincolnville, third, $10; and Roy Hett, Marion, received $5 for fourth place.

Edward L. Janzen, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Janzen of Florence, has been promoted to manager of the Business and Management Science Systems for the A.E. Staley Mfg. Co., a major processor of corn and soybeans headquartered in Decatur, Illinois.

The first baby to be born at St. Luke Hospital in 1981 will receive several prizes from Marion merchants, who are sponsoring the annual baby contest.
