Marion County Record editor Bill Meyer received the 1979 Boyd Community Service Award Thursday at the Kansas Press Association’s 87th annual convention in Garden City. The award is given each year to “the newspaper man or woman who has best served others through community service.” Meyer was nominated for the award by the Marion Chamber of Commerce.

American Legion Auxiliary has selected Janice Wiens, Debra Hett, and Greta Helmer as delegates to the 37th annual Sunflower Girls State June 10-17 on the University of Kansas campus at Lawrence. Theresa Kroupa and Lori Hett are alternate delegates.

Bennie Holtsclaw, Nashville recording artist from Strong City, entertained students, parents, teachers, and other guests Thursday night at Florence Middle School’s open house.

Patrice Fruechting, Douglas Heerey, Jane Johnson, Annette Nienstedt, and Renda Thompson, outstanding high school seniors from Marion, will be recognized as Kansas honor students Monday by the University of Kansas at a dinner and program in McPherson.
