Bobcats in the Marion area? Yes, there are bobcats in the Marion area. And, Danny Sherbert has one to prove it. Sherbert caught one recently. He estimated its weight at between 16 and 20 pounds. He said he plans to have the skin made into a rug. Sherbert, 15, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Sherbert.

Plans are rolling for Marion’s PRIDE Pacemaker awards banquet March 10. Marion has been designated as the ninth city in Kansas to receive the Pacemaker designation for winning all eight blue ribbons in the PRIDE program.

Thirty-six EMT graduates were added recently to the list of qualified ambulance attendants in Marion, Hillsboro, Florence, Tampa, Goessel, and Peabody. Graduates from Marion are Richard Britain and Bob Matz.

Dale Snelling, Marion County Lake superintendent, received permission from the commission Monday to order 1,000 Northern Pike for $1,900 including freight.

After more than a century of Masonic service to the community of Peabody, Halcyon Lodge has decided to give up its status and join Centre Lodge 147 at Marion.

This week’s Personality Profile by Ruth Meyer is about Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scharenberg and the story of their married life.

The annual Queen of Courts basketball game will be Friday night when Marion plays Council Grove. Candidates are Barbara Costello, Kay Blackman, and Paula Vinduska. The queen will be announced at halftime. A dance honoring the queen and her attendants will be Saturday evening in the gymnasium.
