Workers from Smoky Hill Construction Co. began tearing down Luta Creek Bridge on Main Street in Marion this week as part of a replacement plan. Traffic has been routed to north of the bridge during the construction.

Births this week at St. Luke Hospital, all girls, include Megan Renee, born to Mr. and Mrs. George Luna of Marion on Nov. 10; Sarah Taylor, born to Dr. and Mrs. Jeffery Martin, also Nov. 10; Kathy Anne, born to Mr. and Mrs. Terry Nystrom of Burns Nov. 11; and Merissa Dawn, born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Riggs of Florence Nov. 14.

Marion County Clerk’s office has received several inquiries regarding a petition to overrule the closing of Pilsen Elementary School by the Centre School District. The school board voted Nov. 8 to close the school and move the 65 students to classrooms at Lost Springs.

The public is invited to a grand opening and open house of the Florence Medical Clinic Sunday afternoon. The clinic is now owned and operated by Marion County Hospital District No. 1, which also owns St. Luke Hospital and St. Luke Medical Clinic.

Marion players receiving first team slots on the all-Cottonwood Valley League football team were Jerry Fowler, end; Tim Loomis, down lineman; Tim Jirak, linebacker; Tracy Hett, offensive guard; and Randy Kelsey, halfback. Second team honors went to Tim Jirak, tackle; and Bill Shirley, end. Kerry Kelsey received honorable mention at quarterback.
