Marion police were a little wary when they noticed a tall, shaggy-haired character rolling a tire down Main Street Saturday night. When they finally cornered the man, police learned it was Marion County Sheriff June Jost, pulling an early Halloween prank. Police chief Bob Hoffman commented that the culprit should spend the night at the county jail.

Kristi Enos of Marion won third place in the national WCTU essay contest in the elementary division. The Florence WCTU sponsors the annual essay contest.

Jeff Fitzpatrick won the pumpkin carving competition held Saturday night at the Kiwanis-sponsored Halloween party at Marion Builders Senior Center.

Jenny Martens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Martens, celebrated her seventh birthday Oct. 29. Those who came for fun and games after school Thursday were Laura Walz, Kevin Marler, Treva Janzen, Karen Klose, Traci Darrow, Allison Ford, Danielle Longhofer, Kayla Jensen, Corey and Christopher Darrow, Becky Swan, Jill Suderman, Julie and Jodie Jacobson, Ellie Barta-Moran, and Jason Martens.

Junior Alf Tangvald kicked a 46-yard field goal in the final quarter Friday night to give Marion its only offense to cheer about. The Warriors lost the game, 34-3, to Southeast of Saline. It was their second district 3-1 loss in as many weeks. The Warriors now stand at 4-4 on the season.
