Dr. John Slifer, who has served the Florence community for many years has retired and has sold his clinic at Florence to Hospital District No. 1. Family practice physicians Jeffery L. Martin M.D., and Don W. Hodson, M.D., will staff the Florence Medical Clinic starting Monday, July 19. Doctors Martin and Hodson also will maintain regular office hours at St. Luke Medical Clinic in Marion.

Harvest has been in full swing since the middle of last week.

Terry Holt, park ranger at Marion Lake, was named “Ranger of the Year” June 25 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Tulsa Distract. He was cited for exceptional achievements in developing water and hunting safety programs at Marion Lake.

Four-leaf clovers have nothing on the apple cluster pictured as it is being held by David Silhan of Marion. Silhan found the five apples on a single stem on a tree behind the Elgin House.

DuWayne Suffield of Lincolnville attended the Bethel College music camp from June 6 through 11. He sang in the concert choir, played his trap set in the jazz ensemble, and played snare drum in the concert band.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Siebert drove to Newton Thursday evening and while they were gone someone helped himself to Mrs. Siebert’s riding horse. The animal was found in a field south of town Sunday morning with every indication of having been ridden and ridden hard.
