Marion County commissioners held a telephone conference Friday with the Wichita attorney who will represent them in a $2 million civil suit filed by a former employee of the road and ridge department.

Albert Klenda and L.L. Hadsell were re-elected as directors on the Marion County Hospital District No. 1 board of directors at the annual meeting Friday.

Susan Higgins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Higgins, has placed fifth in the nation as a rifle marksman. Higgins, a junior at Eastern New Mexico University, is a member of the university’s all-women rifle team.

Bret O’Dell is pictured as he works on a side of beef at his new meat processing business on Fifth Street in Florence. O’Dell established the business last month after buying out Beaston’s Meat Processing of Marion.

KanzAton Junior Club went to Lindsborg May 2 to tour the Birger Sandzen Art Gallery. The business meeting and dinner were at the New Brunswick Hotel.

Roger Wilson led the Marion High School boys’ track team to a first place victory at the Cottonwood Valley League track and field meet Friday at Council Grove. The Marion girls, led by freshman Leann Snelling, also edged their way into a first place finish at the meet. It was the first time in over a decade of coaching that Coach Rex Wilson’s teams won both league championships.
