Arthur Lewerenz, 48, of Topeka, former Marion businessman and native of Lincolnville was charged Monday by Shawnee County authorities with defrauding the State of Kansas Welfare Department of $14,187.13.

Lucy Guerra won the seventh grade competition, and Chantel Nienstedt was selected top speller among eighth graders. The winners will represent the middle school March 22 at the county spelling bee in Marion.
