The City of Marion was slapped Tuesday, and powerfully so, in a ruling handed down by Attorney General Bob Stephan. He ruled that the recent rate increase of electric power by the city was illegal, because the ordinance which raised the rate was not published prior to the time the electricity was consumed.

Shade was the name of the game Saturday in Central Park as 67 artists from across the state exhibited their works at Marion’s third annual Art in the Park event.

Bradley C. Heerey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heerey of Marion, passed the rigorous three-day examination given in May by the Board of Accountancy and has been awarded the Certified Public Accountant certificate.

The entries in this week’s Marion County Record’s produce derby included a 11½-pound cucumber entered by Christopher and Corey Darrow, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Darrow of Marion; a 16-pound cantaloupe by Ted Miltz of Lincolnville; two 7½-pound cucumbers by Millie Suffield of Lincolnville; and an 18-pound pumpkin by Tyler Cork, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Cork of Marion.
