Nearly $130,000 has been generated through investment of county revenue into interest-drawing accounts this year, according to Kathryn Schimpf, county treasurer. The treasurer said the county has $1.5 million invested in certificates of deposit and savings accounts. Another $68,000 is invested in bridge replacement bonds.

Louise Whiteman is pictured helping her son, 8-month-old Justin, stay afloat at Marion Municipal Swimming Pool. They are enrolled in a “Mom’s and Tot’s” swimming class, designed to instruct mothers in teaching their children, aged six months to five years, how to swim.

Joella Smith and Melissa Robinson, both seniors at Marion High School, will compete in the Tri-County Junior Miss pageant in Herington July 27. Smith is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Royal Smith. Robinson is the daughter of Elora Robinson.

Three-year-old Charlie Maggard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Maggard, is pictured on this week’s front page as he zooms down the slide at Central Park Monday afternoon. Charlie and his cousin, Jenny Maggard, were spending the afternoon with their grandmother, Mrs. Charles Maggard, playing in the park.

Nancy Tharp was among 25 students who graduated this year from Butler County Community College nursing class. The students were in Topeka last week to take state board examinations to certify them as registered nurses.
