Plagued by long drought, a late spring freeze, then a prolonged wet spell, which re-emerged Monday, the 1981 wheat crop began pouring into area grain bins last week. Some farmers are claiming nearly 20 bushels per acre on average, far below the standard of 35 bushels per acre, but better than anticipated.

Richard E. Dale, registered pharmacist and owner of Dale’s Rexall Drug Store at Florence for the past 35 years, has announced that he will close the business on July 3.

Forty-three Cub Scouts and their sponsors converged at Marion County Lake last week for the second annual Camp Nishcoba. Among various activities was an archery contest with Jason Vogt of Hillsboro placing first in the eight-year-old division, Jason Plett, Hillsboro, 1st, 9-year-old, and Mickey Pond, Florence, 1st, 10-year-old. BB gun competition was won by Chris Hett of Marion. Dean Snelling won the angling competition by landing 20 fish. Directors of the camp were Ruth Warnica and Loretta Childs.
