George Matthews and Mike Hauck, representatives from the Kansas Department of Economic Development, spent about 90 minutes Tuesday night explaining details of their recommended downtown improvement plan to businessmen and an interested audience of 150 townspeople gathered in the city building basement. The plan was drawn up as part of a pilot project sponsored through KDED and funded through a government grant.

About 40 second graders from Hillsboro Elementary School toured Marion Thursday, visiting sights around the town. They are pictured as they crowd around Marion County Record editor Bill Meyer as he demonstrates a video display terminal in the newspaper’s composing room.

Combining the theme “I Believe in You” with a western setting, Marion High School juniors treated the seniors to a banquet and prom Saturday night in the fellowship hall at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

The chain that runs the feeder in the large hen house at the Eugene Just farm at Aulne caught Monday afternoon and the pin that was to shear it off if that happened, didn’t shear. The resulting yank upset a whole row of cages and dumped 3,000 hens onto the floor. Eighty hens died and egg production took a nosedive. With the help of neighbors, most of the damage has been repaired.
