Jim Lehrer, anchorman of the MacNeil/Lehrer Report, is returning to Kansas to be host of The Messiah Festival in Lindsborg. Lehrer lived in Marion during junior high years and attended the Hill School. He will drive to Marion from the Wichita airport to visit with friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Meyer.

Marion High School sophomore Cindy Heerey was awarded the grand champion prize in this year’s science fair competition for her science project, “The Effects of Antibiotics on Bacteria.”

Glenn Cunningham, Centre High School principal, submitted his resignation Thursday night at a special meeting of the board of education. Cunningham has come under fire recently from students, faculty and patrons for his alleged “superior attitude.”

Marion High School’s vocal music department will present the musical comedy, “You’re A Good Man, Charley Brown,” May 1 and 2 in Marion Municipal Auditorium. Charlie Brown will be played by Greg Boyle. Other main characters will be portrayed by Gena Helmer, Jan Nuss, Ron Wineinger, Kelly Blackman, and Brad Seifert.

Births announced this week included a son, Joshua Steven, born April 7 to Mr. and Mrs. John R. Sandwell of Evansville, Indiana, and twin boys, Jared Wesley and Joseph Roland, born April 8 to Mr. and Mrs. John Fenske of Lincolnville.
