Marion County Commissioners passed a resolution Monday providing for the establishment of Class B clubs in rural areas of the county. The action set a precedent for legal operation of liquor by the drink establishments in Marion County outside of cities.

Over 250 Marion grade school students mailed pen pal messages via balloons Thursday afternoon in front of Marion Elementary School. The 1:30 launch was aided by a strong south wind. One balloon has already been discovered in Creighton, Mo.

Marion kicked off the 1981 track season with an impressive win at the Marion Quadrangular meet Tuesday. Both boys and girls teams finished first in overall points over teams from Hillsboro, Hesston and Little River.

Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hoffener of Cedar Point announce the engagement of their daughter, Barbara Jean, to Perry Lee Steiner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Steiner of Durham. The couple is planning a May 23 wedding.

Seniors on the Marion High School boys’ basketball team were guests of honor at a hamburger fry and potluck dinner in East Park Monday evening. Those honored were Greg Boyle, Ty Branson, Aaron Hett, Kevin Jirak, Randy Savage, Brad Seifert, Danny Sherbert, Nathan Smith, Brad Vannocker and Carl Wolf.
