Max Tharp, pictured on the front page as he corrals two Longhorn bulls, is the only cattleman in Marion County who raises Longhorns. He’s been at it over two years and hopes to increase his herd from 40 head to at least 100 registered Longhorns in the next few years.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Weibert will be honored April 5 at an open house in recognition of their 50th wedding anniversary. The function will be hosted by Peggy and Jim Cather and family at the home of Josephine Kline at the Marion County Lake.

Jack Webb of Marion was named “number one salesman for 1980” by the Lee Company which he represents.

Tom Hett was surprised and honored March 18 when area John Deere dealers and their wives, met at Kingfisher’s Inn to celebrate his 25 years in business. Other guests included relatives, friends, and employees of Hett’s Farm Equipment.

Pre-schoolers Ashley Loomis, Danielle Longhofer and Amy Linnens, students of Mary Ann Kohls’ School of Dance, previewed parts of their upcoming city performance to members of the Marion Chamber of Commerce Friday.

Mark Meisinger, Happy Hustlers 4-H, is pictured delivering his project talk on tractor safety at the annual 4-H Club Day. Meisinger won a top blue ribbon for his presentation.
