National Newspaper Foundation has announced results of the 1981-82 National Blue Ribbon Newspaper Evaluation Program and the Marion County Record is again on the list of winners. The newspaper has received the award for the past six years.
The first baby born at St. Luke Hospital in 1981 arrived at 12:20 a.m. Jan. 18. Parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Widler, welcomed Brandon Lee, seven pounds, two ounces. Brandon is the winner of Marion County Record’s “first baby contest.”
Jami Shirley scored 36 points and collected eight rebounds Monday night to upstage Chase County, 69-39, in Cottonwood Valley League action. It was one of Shirley’s best performances of her career.
Carla Stovall of Marion was among the elite who attended the Presidential Inauguration festivities in Washington D.C.
Pvt. John Carr, son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Carr, and Pvt. Edwin Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Robinson Sr., are stationed at Anabach, West Germany. They are Redeye missile crewmen.
