Lt. Col. Laura Jane Bredemeier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herb Bredemeier of Marion, has received her second Meritorious Service Medal from the Army.

“Landlord William Scully” a 196-page volume, published by the Regents Press of Kansas, is the product of more than 30 years of research by Homer E. Socolofsky, professor of history at Kansas State University and a native of Marion, who graduated from high school here in 1940. Scully holdings of 71,750 acres in Kansas were mostly in Marion County.

The Salina Journal has named Marion High School senior running back Greg Boyle player of the week in central Kansas high school football. Boyle rushed by 115 yards on 21 carries in the Warriors 37-7 victory of Herington Friday. He also was responsible for scoring 31 points.

About 40 residents and officials from the area gathered in Florence Sunday afternoon for the official dedication of the city’s new ambulance building.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Mosler of rural Hallowell announce the engagement of their daughter, Elaine, to Gary Ewert, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Ewert of Marion. The wedding is planned for May 29.
