Bill Beneke of Lincolnville is the county cucumber champion to date. He brought two specimens to the Marion County Record produce derby. One was 18 inches long and weighed 2ΒΌ pounds. The other was only slightly smaller, and weighed over 2 pounds. Beneke was radish champion last year, and now enters competition in the cucumber category. His challenge is open to all comers.

Karen Pankratz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Pankratz of Marion, was one of two vocalists selected by a noted Romanian conductor at Bucharest this summer. He singled out Karen and Gloria Murry of Wichita and presented them with roses for their outstanding performances. The girls were on tour with the Kansas Newman College chorale.

Denice Helmer was guest of honor at a surprise bridal shower and barbecue Monday evening at the Jack Beaston home. Guests were classmates and friends of Denice, whose marriage to Raymond Bina will occur Aug. 17. Hostesses were Marty Beaston, Sandy Marler, and Janice Bowers.
