Marion County Hospital District No. 1 directors toured a newly completed addition to St. Luke Medical Clinic on Thursday. The addition includes examining rooms, physician offices, a nursing station, and a medical records and business office. An elevator to basement meeting rooms and a health room also are part of the project.

Frances Turner of Marion, a certified master graphanalyst, spoke Monday at Marion Kiwanis’ luncheon meeting at Stone City Café. Turner has been a handwriting expert since 1988.

Pastor Rick Just of Wichita, long-time member of the Aulne Boys gospel quartet, attended a performance March 13 at Salina of the Oak Ridge Boys and was surprised to be asked to join the group on the stage. He is pictured singing a classic gospel song with Duane Allen, Joe Bonsail, William Lee Golden and Richard Sterban.

Seventh-grader Nichole Longhofer is winner of a $100 bond in a Voice of Democracy contest by Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW Post Auxiliary. Second prize of a $75 bond went to Mandalee Meisner. Third prize, a $50 bond, went to Kyle Ramsey.

Despite up to an inch of rain Thursday, a statewide burning ban was still in effect as of Monday. Several small trash fires have been reported. So far, only warnings have been issued. However, violation of the burning ban carries a maximum penalty of $2,500 and one year in jail.

Twenty-three Centre students and 28 adults took a six-day bus trip March 13 to 19, visiting interesting and historic sites in New York City and Washington, D.C., along with a side trip through Philadelphia.

Marion High School senior Brett Sardou has been named student of the month by the MHS faculty, Brett’s plans to attend Butler County Community College, possibly majoring in elementary education.
