Marion County commissioners reviewed a preliminary application Monday for a grant that could pay up to $75,000 for a new roof on the historic courthouse. However, because the roof will be replaced with composition shingles, the grant probably will be less than $75,000. Money will come from a preservation grant administered by the State Historical Society.

Liverpool, a band that imitates the Beatles, is returning for Summerfest ’94. The group will perform July 9 on Central Park Stage.

Five generations pictured in this issue include the youngest member of the family, Tyler Jaso, and his mother Brenda Jaso, Newton; grandmother Marilyn Klassen, Lehigh; and great-grandmother Ruby Linnens and great-great-grandmother Tressie Ford, both of Marion.

Elizabeth Anderson of Peabody-Burns Junior High School will represent Marion County in the state spelling bee. Elizabeth won a county bee Feb. 9 at Marion Elementary School.

Webster Auto Service mechanic Barry Allen is pictured demonstrating a state-of-the-art engine analyzer that uses computer probes to test a vehicle’s systems. It stores technical information on compact discs for rapid recall.
