Pledges to make Marion County courthouse fully accessible topped $5,000 Monday, commissioners learned at their weekly meeting. The single largest pledge was $1,000 from Tri-County Telephone.

Jim Versch, Marion High School art instructor, has been selected to participate in an area-wide art exhibition at McPherson College. Deb Heidebrecht, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Enos, also will have work on display during the exhibition.

Centre High School quiz team participated Monday afternoon in a regional tournament at Tescott. Team members competing included Analiese Ebaben, Dale Klenda, Russell Mueller, Diane Rziha, and Angie Vinduska.

Marion City Commission received bids Monday afternoon on installation of new curtains for the stage of Marion Municipal Auditorium. The low bid of $6,688 from County Seat, Marion, was accepted.

Marion High School student Suzanne Blount has been elected direct vice president for public relations of the Future Homemakers of America. Laura Cupps, Angela Markley, Kay Leah May, and Caren Wildin qualified for state competition.

Bonnie Wealand, Cedar Point, has been sworn in as postmaster in Florence. Wealand had been postmaster in Cedar Point since 1984.
