Preliminary work has been completed on the new entrance to St. Luke Hospital. Located on the east side, the construction houses expanded business and administration offices.

Owners Jim and Donna Fruechting have sold Marion True Value Hardware and Gifts, 301 East Main, to son-in-law and daughter, Jim and Pat Chamberland.

Marion County commissioner Lucille Britain was awarded a 16-year plaque and pin at ceremonies during the Kansas Association of Counties convention this week. Britain was honored for her time as a county commissioner and as a member of the county emergency medical service.

Rocky and Shirley Jo Hett hosted eight hunters from New Jersey and one from Italy at their home in Hett Hollow from Nov. 9 through 13. The hunters flew to Newton in a jet-powered airplane, accompanied by their 10 hunting dogs.

Sherry Lange, Ashley Loomis, Lesley Sieger, Traci Darrow, Thurston Thies, and Micah Hanson were inducted into the MHS chapter of National Honor Society Nov. 6.
